There are several reasons to switch to a plant based milk:

  1. Dairy milk is not good for you.
  2. Dairy milk is not good for the environment – see video below.
  3. Dairy milk is not good for the calf – see video below
  4. Plant based milks are more accessible and healthier.

I have tried all the “alternative” milks available. I feel that oat milk is the best for espresso/lattes. Nutrition wise – pea milk and soy milk are the best.

Almond milk is bad for the environment, but may still be better than cow milk.

However I have a few concerns about plant milks as well:

  1. Soy milk (Silk) and pea milk (Ripple) have “gellan gum” in it. Gellan gum is a water-soluble polysaccharide produced by the bacterium Sphingomonas elodea. It is used as a thickening agent (similar to agar). This may alter intestinal flora.
  2. Oat milk has low protein content, about 1 g/serving. Also it has rapeseed (safflower) oil which has omega 6 fatty acids.

WestSoy milk does not have additives. It tastes pretty good!
