State Forest State Park

Posted on 2025-07-052025-07-05 by Sameer Oza

We took an impromptu trip to State Forest State Park near Walden. It is the largest state park in Colorado at more than 70,000 acres, it is remote and not very popular – all the reasons to go there for 4th of July. It is home to 600 moose though we were not lucky enough to see one.  We were lucky to see tons of wildflowers, to have cool & cloudy weather and to hike in the backcountry.   The first day we did a 11 mile hike and the events reiterated how strong Peggy is – she twisted her ankle at 6 miles and finished the hike regardless.   I also found out how strongly built the Motorola smartphones are – Peggy dropped hers in the campfire, we got it out after about 15 seconds and it worked!!
