Marble, Colorado is one of my favorite places to walk. We have a cabin there, in the shadow of Mt. Whitehouse. Part of this mountain is an old marble mine – the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC was carved from marble mined here.

Marble is down the road from Carbondale – Mt. Sopris looms over Carbondale and offers a wide variety of hiking trails:

Rather than the usual back country hikes in Marble, we just hiked up the road to our neighbors

Redstone is about 14 miles from Marble and makes for a nice evening hike by the river. If you are more enthusiastic, there are >500 miles of backcountry hikes between Redstone, Marble, Crested Butte and Aspen.
