CHA2DS2-VaSC score is what we use to determine a patient’s risk of stroke. If a patient’s risk score is 2 or greater, we usually recommend anticoagulants – DOAC (direct anticoagulant – Eliquis, Pradaxa, Xarelto) or warfarin.
If a patient with CHA2DS2-VaSC score of 3 or greater cannot tolerate an anticoagulant (usually due to life threatening bleed, they may be considered for a WATCHMAN or ATRICLIP procedure.
