Looked through some interesting photo books this weekend. 3 of my favorites are:
- Koudelka
- Koudelka – Gypsies
- Looking In – Robert Frank’s The Americans
Some quotes from Robert Frank:
- What you reject ….. is just as important.
- When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.
- It’s Christmas Day. It’s cold… My camera looks down Bleecker Street. I’m listening to the music and I’m looking at the Christmas wrappers blowing in the wind. I’m thinking of Kerouac when he said, “Being famous is like old newspapers blowing down Bleecker Street”
- A wife can stop loving you: photography? I loved it, spent my talents on it, I was committed to it; but when respectability and success became part of it, then it was time to look for another mistress or wife.
- Some photographs are attached. These spoke the most to me. A long way to go in my photography.
